Never rush into making your purchase of mobility scooter as buying the wrong product can be very costly indeed. It have been monitored that many on-line auctions recently and as yet we have not managed to find anything that stood out to us as being a real bargain. Many of the products we have seen for sale are inferior quality and do not appear to be a recognized make. There is a list of considerations before we choose the model of mobility scooter you are going to buy.

Do I want a 3 or 4 wheeled model mobility scooter? Three-wheeled mobility scooter models is lighter and the most maneuverable; while four-wheeled scooters are heavier and more stable. A 3 wheeled mobility scooter is also very handy if you have long legs or large feet as they have much more leg room. Always try and match your size and weight before you buy. A mobility scooter can be a very useful machine if you get the right one but if you do not it can be very costly. A test drive will help you determine which you prefer for your lifestyle.

Some scooters are allowed on the road and some are not.

As well as being registered for road use, a Class 3 mobility scooter must be licensed in the disabled taxation class and you need to display a nil duty tax disk. A Class 3 mobility scooter covers mechanically powered scooters that are capable of travelling at more than 4mph but have a maximum speed of 8mph for highway use. If you want to use a Class 3 mobility scooter on a footpath, you need to have a device fitted to limit its speed to 4mph. A Class 3 mobility scooter also  must have a speed control switch that allows the speed to be halved instantly when being driven on the pavements. The Scooter must also have Lights (front and rear), traffic signal indicators, hazard warning lights and an audible horn. If the vehicle is to be driven on or across a dual carriageway it must also be fitted with a flashing beacon that stands 6 foot in height. Rear view mirrors are also essential.

A class 2 mobility scooter will only be allowed to drive on the pavements and cross minor roads where traffic control is in operation. Many Class 2 machines now have lights and indicators fitted to them as standard and it is important that you do not get confused between the two classes of machine.

Before making a mobility scooter purchase, it is important to test drive a number of models to determine comfort, ease of steering and functionality. Ask about warrantees and how you will can get servicing or repair for your scooter. Finally, make sure you are provided with the total cost (including add-ons) in writing before making any decision.
